At this point it is hard for Cam Coleman to even imagine signing day. It’s understandable for the talented 2019 wide receiver prospect considering he has just under three years until he puts pen to paper.
After an exceptional freshman season at St. Louis (Mo.) Vianney, Coleman has already grabbed the attention of college coaches though. He received an offer from Iowa State just before Christmas and yesterday the home state Missouri Tigers offered Coleman.
“I feel more validated knowing that the home team has offered me,” Coleman said after a workout at Football U in Florissant. “I’m not going to worry about no more offers. I’m just going to focus on trying to help my team when a state championship.”
The numbers Coleman put up jump off the paper when you consider how young he is and that he was doing it in the Metro Catholic Conference. As a freshman he caught 51 passes for 781 yards and seven touchdowns. He also ran 13 times for 89 yards and one touchdown.
The offer by Mizzou to Coleman was the first in-state offer the Tigers have extended for the 2019 class. It was just the second offer Missouri has extended for 2019 nationwide.
Coleman and his father are starting to talk about taking some unofficial visits this summer and he will be attending camps all over. That includes the Rivals Camp Series in Kansas City on May 15.
There are no favorites for the 5-foot-11, 165 pound prospect as of now. He’d like to start hearing from Oregon, Alabama and Florida State, but Coleman will also be checking out Mizzou.
“They’re the home team so of course they’re going to be high on my board,” he said of the Tigers.
Right now though, all of Coleman’s focus is on improving himself in order to help his team when that state championship. He wants to improve his speed and catch the ball more consistently while continuing to get stronger.
“I just want to make sure my sophomore year is way better than my freshman year. I can not have a drop-off,” explained Coleman.
With the numbers he put up as a freshman, that will require continued work like what he put in today at the River’s Edge Sports Complex with Football U.
PowerMizzou.com will follow the recruitment of Coleman closely over the next few years and bring Tiger fans updates on the talented wide receiver whenever available.
