PowerMizzou.com has confirmed that Missouri will hire Jim Sterk away from San Diego State as its next Director of Athletics. The news was originally reported by Bill Pollock of MissouriNet.
UPDATED AT 7:30 P.M.
San Diego State has announced Sterk's resignation. He will take over as the Athletic Director at Missouri on September 1st.
“Jim has made extraordinary contributions to the success of SDSU’s athletics teams,” SDSU President Elliot Hirshman said in a release from the school. “I am grateful to Jim and his family for their service to the university community and wish them great success in their new endeavor.”
Sterk has been at San Diego State for six years, during which time the Aztecs have won 32 conference championships. He had previous stints at Portland State and Washington State as the Athletic Director. You can read his full bio here.
On July 13th, PowerMizzou.com broke the news that Mack Rhoades would leave Missouri to become the Director of Athletics at Baylor. Mizzou immediately named Rhoades' No. 2 Wren Baker as the interim AD. Since then, Baker has taken the Athletic Director job at North Texas and both Interim Chancellor Hank Foley and Deputy AD Sarah Reesman have been named interim directors at Mizzou.
At this time there is no official announcement of the hire from the University. The University's Board of Curators has announced a meeting for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. It is anticipated Sterk's hiring will be approved at that meeting and an official announcement should come from Mizzou on Wednesday.
