Mizzou lands commitment from 3-star WR out of Texas

Three days ago, Madison (Tex.) wide receiver Danny Gray received an offer from the Missouri Tigers. Today, he became the fifth commitment of the 2018 class after announcing his decision on Twitter.

The Mizzou staff evaluated the 6-foot-1, 175-pound prospect over the spring and pegged the 3-star talent as an impact player on offense.

Gray chose Mizzou over the likes of Kansas, North Texas, and UTSA. He was also hearing from the likes of UConn, Baylor, and others.

The Lone Star State talent went in-depth on his decision with PowerMizzou.com.

- On his commitment to Missouri and what stood out about the Tigers:

"I've been talking to all the coaches on the staff and they've been showing a lot of love and I'm really thankful to be continuing my college career at Missouri. The quarterback had more deep passing yards than any other quarterback in the SEC. They throw the ball a lot and their work ethic is beautiful and their campus looks beautiful and they just stood out to me more."

- On receiving his offer and telling the coaches about his commitment:

"Coach Brian Odom extended the offer to me. I called Coach Brian (Odom) and told him I wanted to commit today and the whole coaching staff was really excited."

- What the coaching staff likes about his overall game:

"They tell me my hands are great and I have perfect route running and I can make a big factor at Mizzou in their offense."

- On his upcoming visit to Columbia:

"I'm suppose to be going down there in two weeks. I want to see the classrooms, weight room, film room, and football field."

- On improving his overall game:

"I've been working on my footwork. This past season I really excelled at my route-running and ability to make 5-yard plays into 80 or 90-yard touchdowns. I just put in a lot of work this past season and offseason and I think my work is paying off."

- On his state championship track season:

"It was fun. I won state in the (3A) 100 and 4x100. We had a great time out there in Austin. We went out there and competed and came out on top."
