MO underclassmen earn offers at camp

It does not happen very often. Occasionally at the Mizzou three day padded team camps, though, a prospect will do enough in front of the coaches to earn an offer on the spot. Receiving the offer up to a couple weeks after the camp is more normal, but sometimes the coaches see a combination of athleticism and skills that necessitates an immediate offer.
That was the case for 2018 St. Louis (Mo.) Chaminade defensive tackle Trevor Trout and 2017 Kansas City (Mo.) Hogan Prep athlete DaRon Davis.

Trout is already a known prospect due to his size and a string of strong camp performances over the last couple of summers. Davis was more of an unknown going into camp. Both walked away with Missouri offers and were very excited about it.
"It means a lot, because Missouri is my dream school," explained Davis. "That's where I really want to go to and that's the first school to offer me. I can see myself committing to Mizzou my senior year. Nothing is set yet, but that is what I'm thinking."
"I was surprised. It was really surreal. I knew it was going to happen eventually, but I didn't realize I'd be that excited when it happened," said Trout. "I tried not to show it. I felt like [the offer] was coming because I was dominating the whole camp. I also kind of got a hint when Markus [Golden] texted me and told me to keep killing it at the camp and I had something big coming too."
Trout shared Davis' sentiment about Missouri being high on his list and at this point a likely recipient of his commitment. He also shared the desire to take his time with the process.
"I'm not going to commit early. It's just not me," Trout explained. "I'm still going to explore my options and everything. Right now it's early and I'm still young. I haven't even experienced any other schools. In the future, though, I see myself staying at home."
With Davis being a year closer to making his decision he already has a time frame in mind saying he would like to commit on or near signing day after his senior season. Several factors make Mizzou the team to beat for the 6-foot-2, 190 pound prospect.
"I just love the team," he said of the Tigers. "They win and they work hard. Even though we had a rough season coming into the SEC we got it together and started doing way better. That really made me want to go there because they moved to the SEC and its a stronger conference."
Trout is not ready to project a decision time frame, but he did talk about a big draw to committing to his home state school.
"My dad is a big, big Mizzou fan. My mom wouldn't have a problem with me going away. She would support whatever makes me happy, but it would be huge for my dad if I went to Mizzou," he said.
Davis has upcoming camps with Purdue, Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky and Florida St. He said he feels like all those schools are showing strong interest. Now he hopes to duplicate his Mizzou camp performance and land additional offers.
Since adding the Missouri offer, Trout has already picked up a second as Iowa offered the 6-foot-3, 282 pound prospect at their satellite camp in St. Charles. As Trout continues to get out on the camp circuit and work out in front of coaches more offers will come in.
