"I think Mizzou and Illinois are close," Willis told PowerMizzou.com.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound athlete has had a solid start to the season. Despite his team being just 1-and-2, Willis ran for 179 yards and three touchdowns in New Madrid's most recent game. While he's playing running back, his coach has previously said his college position is most likely on defense, possibly at linebacker.
"They aren't really saying," Willis said when asked what position he might play in college. "As long as I play, I don't care."
Willis' brother goes to Illinois and he will get an up close look at Champaign.
"I am going to Illinois this Friday after our game," he said. "I don't really know if my brother will affect my decision."
He mentioned the Tigers and the Illini as his current favorite schools, but they are not alone in recruiting him.
"Mizzou, Illinois, Arkansas State, Kansas State," Willis said. "There are a lot of them."
New Madrid coach Arlen Pixley had also mentioned Kansas and Ball State as schools that had expressed some interest in the spring. Willis is hoping to hear some good news, in the form of an offer, from a few of those schools in the coming weeks.
PowerMizzou.com will continue to follow Missouri's recruiting efforts through national signing day next February. To talk about it with other Tiger fans, visit our premium forum, The Tigers' Lair.
