Orr has Mizzou connection

When Mizzou switched conferences from the Big 12 to the SEC most expected the Tigers' Texas pipeline to dry up. In their first year moving from the Big 12 to the SEC the Tigers saw a 50% drop in Texas signees.

That is not stopping Mizzou from extending a lot of early offers in the 2014 Texas class, though. Despite the fact that the 2014 class has not finished their junior year already 20 prospects have been offered compared to 26 all of last class.
One of those early offers is DeSoto (Texas) cornerback Nick Orr.
"Coach [Dave] Steckell called me a few weeks ago and offered me," said Orr. "He said they liked me a lot. He said I'm a baller. They want to get me up there for a visit to see the campus. I think I'm going to get up there this summer to see how it is."
In addition to extending the offer on the phone Dave Steckel has checked in on Orr in person as well.
"Coach [Dave] Steckell came down before and saw me doing track. He told me that he's going to come down again this week to check me out on the football field too," Orr explained.
Their are a few qualities about Mizzou that stand out to Orr including a family friend being a current member of the football team.
"I know that Marcus Murphy goes up there and I know they recently moved to the SEC. That was a big deal for me," said Orr. "My brother played high school football with Marcus so I now him real well. Other than that I'm planning on learning a lot on my visit."
When it comes time for Orr to make his decision he knows what he is looking for.
"How the program is, like the coaching staff, and how they get along. Also to be able to play on a good defense in a good atmosphere," Orr said. "Last thing is how I get along with the rest of the players."
Orr currently holds offers from Missouri, Kansas, Texas Tech, and North Texas, which are the teams he is hearing from the most right now.
"Right now I'm mostly just hearing from the schools that offered me. Out of those schools no ones really standing out right now. They're all even," Orr explained.
As far as a time frame Orr has an idea of what he wants to do as long as everything works out as he has planned.
"I'm going to take my visits this summer and then I want to try and make my decision before the season. If I don't find the right fit than I'll wait till after the season," said Orr.
