'Probably going to take some camaraderie and some wins.'

It is rare for a rising junior to have already figured out the recruiting process, but Trevor Trout seems to have a nice grasp on the situation and what it entails. The 295-pound defensive lineman immediately made it clear that he does not have a top group, yet, something that most top prospects don’t come out and declare until later in their senior year.

“I’m hearing from almost every school in the country right now,” Trout said. “At this point, I’m not solid on anything, yet. I still have to keep my options open. I don’t have a Top 10 or Top 5, yet. So, right now, I am just going to class and talking to coaches and building relationships.”

Trout did mention that he is hearing from numerous college coaches each day and that his recruitment is extremely hectic at this point. Trout did say that a few college coaches seemed to be reaching out to him with a lot more frequency than others.

“Some of them are obvious, like Mizzou, Oklahoma, Nebraska,” Trout told PowerMizzou.com. “It’s hard at the same time because it feels like I am talking to at least five-six coaches everyday. It’s probably even more than that, but those are just the coaching staffs that I happened to have on the top of my head right now.”

The four-star did elaborate on his visit to Missouri recently, which he said was neat because he was able to meet some of the top players in the state and get to know them.

“The trip went pretty well,” Trout said. “I think what made it different was the amount of in-state kids that were there and I got to meet some of the kids from the Kansas City side and being able to see the guys that I already know all in one place. We were told that we could all come and do this together at Mizzou.”

Speaking of Trout being wise beyond his years, he realizes that getting all ten of the prospects to sign with Missouri at the end of the day will be extremely difficult. Prospects come up with dream team scenarios all of the time, and while it may look good on paper; every prospect is looking for different things in their college of choice. With that being said, PowerMizzou.com asked Trout if it was even a remote possibility that all ten could potentially end up playing together in Columbia.

“It is actually a real thing. It is a real thing. I mean, the likelihood of it? I don’t know, and it is rare.”

What are some of the key factors that could determine if all ten don the black and gold jerseys?

“Probably going to take some camaraderie and some wins,” Trout said. “Mizzou is going to have to win and if we do choose to go there, everybody would have to be on board.”

The Tigers are going to have their work cut out for them if they want to keep the top player in the state. One program that seems to really want Trout is Oklahoma. Much like how Trout knew not to release a Top 5 if he was not ready, he also knows how to read coaches and he says that Oklahoma’s defensive line coach, Calvin Thibodeaux, seems to be shooting it to him straight.

“Oklahoma’s D-Line coach [Calvin Thibodeaux] is going after me pretty strong, I talk to him almost everyday,” Trout said. “He basically is telling me that he needs me to be the face of their program and for the most part he seems pretty genuine at this point and a pretty solid dude.”

As for what is next for Trout, well, he knows that he will be participating in some of the top camps in the country during the coming months, but does not know when he will visit college campuses anytime soon.

“Spring games and those things are something I haven’t planned, yet,” Trout said. “I know I will be at camps like Rivals and Under Armour and stuff like that. Then, we will have to see about stuff in the summer. I don’t have anything planned, but I probably will by the end of the school year.”

Even though Trout does not have his spring plans lined up right now, one thing that is for certain is that Trout is going to take his time with the recruiting process and evaluate everything that he can and take his time with it. When you are as talented as he is, you can take all the time you want.
