Recruiting Roundup: 9/23

Welcome to our new weekly feature which will keep Mizzou fans who subscribe to PowerMizzou.com as up to date as possible with who the Tigers are recruiting.
UNDERCLASSMEN TO WATCH: I attended the CBC versus Chaminade game last Friday which gave me an opportunity to see some of the best young prospects in the state of Missouri. The game ended up being a rout for the Cadets, as they won 51-0, but I still came away impressed with the youngsters on both teams.

CBC has a pair of explosive junior playmakers in wide receiver Lamar Anderson and running back Tre Bryant. Both scored one touchdown a piece and displayed the abilities that have power five schools showing a lot of early interest. For the season, Anderson has 23 receptions for 287 yards and five touchdowns while Bryant has 40 carries for 457 yards and 8 touchdowns.
The pair went on a visit two weekends ago to Iowa. Bryant also visited Illinois last week, will visit Purdue this week and has plans to visit Wisconsin later this season. Anderson has heard some from Cornell Ford and Mizzou, but would like to hear from the Tigers more. Bryant said he has not heard from Mizzou at all, but would also like to hear from the Tigers. The fact that Bryant did not play last year could be the reason he is not hearing from Missouri yet. One would think when they see his junior film that could change.

Red Devils' junior cornerback Roderick Campbell definitely stood out despite the lopsided score. The long and athletic prospect had tight coverage on his man most of the game and also was not afraid to come up to help on run plays. For the season, Campbell has made 18 tackles and has three interceptions with one going for a touchdown. He also has a 98 yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
Campbell is the early pick for the number one prospect in the state of Missouri for the class of 2016. At this point Campbell holds offers Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky. He is hearing from Cornell Ford, but no offer has been extended yet.
The most promising prospect on Chaminade, though, is probably the youngest. Freshman defensive lineman Trevor Trout is a 6-foot-3, 265 pound specimen, with a body type similar to former Tiger Sheldon Richardson. Trout attended Mizzou's spring game where he got the chance to meet Markus Golden. The two hit it off when Golden took the time to run through some bag drills with Trout and they have stayed in touch since. As Pete Scantlebury mentioned over the summer, Trout also attended Mizzou's camp where he was named the defensive line MVP.
Being only a freshman, there is not much going on with recruiting for Trout. The only coaches he has ever talked with are Missouri's when he attended their camp. He attended no other camps last summer. In some cases college coaches will check in with a prospect through the high school coach, but Trout said his coach has not told him about any schools asking about him. Trout did tell me he expects to visit Mizzou for a game this season. Perhaps the Georgia game if it works for his schedule.
TOP TARGETS: There has been a lot of movement recently among Mizzou's legitimate targets. Defensive tackle target Fletcher Adams committed to the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Where he committed ultimately matters little because it had been apparent for a while that Mizzou would not land the Magnolia State four-star. He kept saying he might visit Mizzou unofficially or officially, but it never came close to happening. In the end it seemed like there would be little chance for the Tigers to get him all the way north to Columbia with so many closer schools involved.
There have also been new offers made to Florida athlete Jalen Julius, Texas athlete DeAndre McNeal, Florida defensive back Derrick Baity and New Jersey linebacker Saleem Brightwell. Where does that leave Mizzou as they look to fill around eight more spots for the class of 2015?
1. Terry Beckner Jr., 4* DT, East St. Louis (Ill.) - Beckner will maintain the number one spot on this list until he announces his commitment, which will happen either at the Under Armour All-American game or on signing day. Not only is Beckner the most talented prospect Missouri after he is also at a position of need. Returning players that could contribute on the interior of the defensive line will be Harold Brantley, Josh Augusta, Rickey Hatley, Evan Winston and A.J. Logan. Looking at that group I could see Beckner coming in and being third in the rotation pretty quickly. He is that talented. Beckner is scheduled to unofficially visit Mizzou for the Georgia game.
2. Marquise Doherty, 4* RB, Winnetonka (Mo.) - The last of the four-star prospects to be uncommitted in Missouri, Doherty narrowed his list down to Mizzou, Oregon, Iowa, Kansas State and Louisville just over a month ago. Since then he has gone pretty quite, but I've heard some rumblings that the Tigers are in very good shape with the two sport star. Doherty has official visits scheduled to Oregon on November 21 and Missouri on December 5.
3. Raequan Williams, 3* DE, DePaul College Prep (Ill.) - Although he is listed as a defensive end, Williams told me Mizzou is recruiting him as a defensive tackle. Williams had previously said that Mizzou would get an official visit along with Iowa, Arizona State and Oregon. Josh Helmholdt recently reported that Michigan State and Ohio State are also now showing increased interest, which could shake things up for the number four ranked player in the state of Illinois.
4. Johnathon Johnson, 3* WR, Melrose (Tenn.) - At one point, Johnson seemed on the verge of committing to Missouri. It appears he may have been asked to step back, though, as the Tigers were not sure if they wanted another slot receiver. Since then Levi Copelin was dismissed from the Missouri football program, meaning an additional receiver will most likely be taken in this class. If Johnson makes his official visit for the Georgia game as he had previously expected, a commitment would not be out of the question.
5. Adonis Williamson, 3* CB, Arsenal Technical (Ind.) - Virginia Tech has been the leader for Williamson since his official visit there over the summer. Recently, though, Mizzou has really turned up their recruitment of the athletic cornerback, making him the priority at the position. Will it be enough to overcome the Hokies early advantage? Hard to say for sure at this point, but if he does land at Virginia Tech it will not be because of a lack of effort on Missouri's part. Williamson is in the process of trying to schedule official visits currently.
6. Nate Howard, 3* DE, Ladue Horton Watkins (Mo.) - Despite being committed to Winsonsin, Howard took an official visit to Missouri for the Central Florida game. As we reported, he came away impressed then landed an offer a couple days later. Howard maintained his commitment to the Badgers, but did say nothing is official till signing day. With that being the case, I see the Tigers overtaking the Badgers and eventually landing his commitment as long as Mizzou does not completely fall below expectations this season.
7. Joseph Prevost, 2* LB, Archbishop Shaw (La.) - Prevost is another prospect that seemed very close to a commitment to Missouri not long ago. It looks to be another case of the coaches maybe asking him to slow it down a little since there are so few spots remaining in the class. Since he took his unofficial visit to Mizzou over the summer, Prevost has gone pretty quite when it comes to recruiting.
8. Tyler Howell, 3* OL, Butler County C.C. (Kan.) - The junior college tackle is starting to get interest from schools like Ohio State, who he is planning to visit when the Buckeyes take on Michigan. He also is planning a visit to Arkansas and maybe Arizona State. Howell has said he would still like to visit Mizzou, but has nothing set at this point. I am not completely sure that Mizzou will take a third offensive lineman, but if they do it appears Howell is their top target for now.
