Sean East II earns contract with Los Angeles Lakers

Mizzou graduate senior guard Sean East II fulfilled his dream of joining an NBA team on Thursday, agreeing to an Exhibit 10 deal — a one-year, minimum contract that can be converted into a two-way contract — with the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday as a free agent after going unselected in the draft this week.

The Louisville, Ky. native spent two seasons with the Tigers, helping the program earn its first NCAA tournament win in a decade in 2023. This past year, East led Missouri with a career-high 17.6 points per game while shooting 52.1% from the field, 45.0% from the 3-point line and 85.6% from the free throw line. East also averaged 3.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.1 steals. Before transferring to MU, East’s previous college stops included UMass, Bradley and John A. Logan College, where he was named the 2022 NJCAA Player of the Year.

East told PowerMizzou.com he’d participated in multiple camps and tournaments and worked out with a handful of NBA clubs during the pre-draft process, including the Lakers, helping him earn a chance with the team. He becomes the third Tiger under head coach Dennis Gates to receive an NBA contract, joining former Mizzou standouts Kobe Brown and D’Moi Hodge, who also signed with the Lakers as an undrafted free agent last year.

The 6-foot-2 guard is now likely to play in the NBA Summer League, beginning July 8 in Las Vegas.
