Stokes planning visits this summer

Summer is usually the time recruits take advantage of their free time to take some visits and Eric Stokes Jr. is a prime example of that.

The three-star athlete from Covington, Ga., was at Tennessee last week and has also been to Ole Miss and Georgia recently.

He plans to visit Louisville on July 15th and Florida shortly after. He’d like to get to Clemson and South Carolina soon if his schedule permits.

Primarily used as a running back in high school, Stokes currently holds offers from Louisville, LSU, Missouri and West Virginia among others.

Missouri is a school Stokes is interested in visiting but he admitted he doesn’t know much about the program. Current Tigers cornerback T.J Warren is from Stokes’ area so he has some familiarity with him.

“I hear from them twice a week,” Stokes told PowerMizzou.com about the Tigers.

Despite having the same name, Stokes shares no relation to former Nebraska and NFL defensive back Eric Stokes, who now scouts for the Carolina Panthers. Stokes said he gets asked about that all the time.

Despite primarily being used on offense in high school football, Stokes is primarily being recruited as a cornerback by colleges. He’ll continue to play running back for Eastside High School this fall but said there are some plans for him to get action on the other side of the ball.

“I’m going to be playing a little bit of both,” he said. “My team needs me to play running back so I’ll play (defensive back) too as well so I can get that on film.”

Stokes prides himself on his speed, is why schools like him as a defensive back in college.

“I got speed so regardless, even if I mess up on a play just by my speed I can make a play just like that,” he said.

Stokes plans to be a double major in college, majoring in business and psychology and said he plans to release a top-10 towards the end of July.

PowerMizzou.com will continue to follow Stokes’ recruitment over the coming months and will provide updates whenever they are available.
