1) We're all in a really weird place right now. And by, "all," I don't mean sports fans. I mean people. Yesterday was Easter and it just seemed like another day. One of my kids is still up at college, the other is 17, we don't do Easter egg hunts at this point. We went for a hike and had a good meal, but there was no big production that there often is on a holiday. We didn't go see anybody and nobody saw us. And usually I'm fine with that. But something about yesterday just hit me. This sucks. I want it to be over. I know eventually it will be and that we'll get back to normal or whatever the new version of normal is. And I know that there are a whole bunch of people out there who have it a whole lot worse than I do right now. But I think we're all the same in that there are good days and bad days. The good days get you through and the bad days make you wonder when the hell we can have our lives--or something approaching our lives--back. I miss going to the gym. I miss meeting up for a beer. I miss going to the coffee shop to work just because it's a change of scenery. My pre-quarantine life wasn't super exciting. But I miss the comfort of the boring I used to know. I liked it better than the current boring. There's no real point to this. Consider it my therapy for the day. Sometimes it's just good to share with other people when yesterday was a bad day. Because especially now, I can't imagine I'm alone.
2) I'm going to hit a point where watching old sports gets old. And I think that point is probably going to hit this week. But it didn't hit this weekend. I watched the 1997 Masters, which was the first one Tiger Woods won. Then I watched the 2005 Masters, where he hit the greatest golf shot I've ever seen.
I watched a few holes of Phil Mickelson winning in 2004 and then yesterday I watched the 2019 Masters, which I think was, if you take rooting interest out of it, the greatest sporting event I've ever seen. There are games I've liked better because my team was in them. But from a pure entertainment standpoint, considering the stage and the theater and the drama and the "HOLY SHIT OH MY GOD THIS IS REALLY GOING TO HAPPEN" factor, I think Woods winning 14 years after he last won at Augusta tops the list for me. I'm not saying it should or will for anyone else. I now fully expect a long string of replies "How can you say this was better than winning the SEC East or Game 6 of the 2011 World Series or the Super Bowl?" I'm not saying that. Everyone's list is different. Taking rooting interests out of it, I don't know if I've ever enjoyed watching a sporting event more.
3) In case you gave up the Internet for Lent, we're into round two of our greatest player in Mizzou football history tournament. There weren't any huge surprises for me in round one. The voting went mostly the way I thought it would. I've gotten some blowback on seedings and "how can this guy be playing that guy already?" Well, you're talking about 130 years of football and when you're down to the top 32 players in 130 years, it should be hard. There really shouldn't be anybody that you're looking at going "What the hell is he doing on this list?" Of the 32 players remaining, there are nine that I think have a legitimate shot to win the entire thing. I don't know if they're the nine guys I think are the best nine players in the history of the program, but considering the voting and the way things have gone so far and all, I think there are nine guys who might end up as the overall champ. This is simply entertainment and I'll be interested to see where you all take it.
4) There are two decisions that will impact Missouri basketball today.
