Ten Thoughts for Monday Morning

We want to thank Berkshire Hathaway Stein & Summers for continuing to be a partner and sponsoring the thoughts for another year. This is one of our most popular features each week and we appreciate Stein & Summers continuing to work with us.

1) Let's start with some good news because God knows there hasn't been much of it lately. Missouri has picked up four commitments in the last four days. We'll start with the 2021 prospects. On Thursday, juco DE Shemar Pearl committed to Mizzou for the second time. Pearl was a Mizzou commitment in the 2019 class for Barry Odom but never signed because it was obvious before signing day he wasn't going to qualify. The Tigers beat out South Carolina and Texas Tech this time around. The next day, Florida linebacker Zachary Lovett jumped on board. We don't know this, but we think there's a shot the Tigers are looking at him as a player who can grow into a defensive end. Already 6-2 and 230 before his senior season starts, it's pretty likely he could put on 20-30 pounds and play on the edge.Yesterday, it was another linebacker, Dameon Wilson from North Carolina.

2) Those commitments give Missouri 14 in the class. We are projecting the Tigers take a full slate of 25 this year. Let's just go position by position:

Quarterback: Missouri is done with Tyler Macon on board. They won't take another one.

Running Back: The Tigers could take one in addition to Taj Butts, but they don't have to.

Wide Receiver: Missouri doesn't have any committed right now. We're projecting two, but they could take three if the third was the right player.

Tight End: Mizzou has two committed in Ryan Hoerstkamp and Gavin McKay. They won't take another.

Offensive Line: Connor Tollison is the only commitment so far. Mizzou will probably take three.

So offensively, Missouri currently has five commitments and we think they'll take four to six more. Two or three offensive linemen, two or three receivers and possibly a running back.

Defensive Tackle: The Tigers are going to go heavy (no pun intended) here. We'd look for three or four of them. Mekhi Wingo is on board. We wrote this weekend about juco product Jalen Williams. Daniel Robledo (who could also probably be an end) and Matthew Alexander are other priority names here.

Defensive End: We're thinking at least four here as well. Travion Ford and Shemar Pearl are committed here and as we mentioned, Zachary Lovett could fit here too. Kyran Montgomery and Tobechi Okoli are likely the top two names to watch for the time being.Linebacker: We think they're done. Maybe one more, but unlikely.

Defensive Back: Missouri already has four committed and we're very confident it will be five when Tyler Hibbler makes his announcement Tuesday at 8. Depending on what else happens in the class, the Tigers could take as many as seven here, but five if they miss on some top targets or do well at other positions, they could stick with just those five.

The Tigers should have ten defensive commitments after Hibbler announces. We're projecting they take ten on offense, so that leaves five spots for defense (assuming they don't take a punter or another specialist). Those spots are likely four defensive linemen and a defensive back at this point in time.

3) As of today, the class ranks 29th in the country.
