Tigers add size and speed

Missouri's first "Night at the Zou" camp netted the Tigers two commitments prior to the end of the day. Michigan offensive lineman Larry Borom was first, followed soon after by Texas wide receiver Roderick Ford.

Both prospects said they came to Columbia with a decent idea they would commit before leaving campus.

"I was wishy-washy a little bit," Borom said. "I wanted to see the campus and get a feel."

Prior to Saturday, the only coach Borom had met was recruiting coordinator A.J. Ofodile. But after spending time with offensive line coach Glen Elarbee on a campus tour, the head coach sold Borom on Mizzou.

"Me and my mom sat down with coach Odom," Borom said. "He was telling me how much he wanted me and all that type of stuff. I committed.

"When I got here, I just felt at home."

The 6-foot-6, 335-pound Borom (not a misprint) said Missouri views him as a tackle in college.

"I'd like to come down a little bit in weight," he said. "But other than that, I bring a lot of physicality, toughness being from Detroit. I bring a lot to the table."

Borom said he will not take any other visits.

Roderick Ford came to Mizzou from Fort Worth this morning already nearly certain he would leave as a Tiger.

"I wanted to do it in person with coach Barry Odom," he said. "The atmosphere, the coaches, they showed me love. They've been watching me a long time."

Ford, like Borom, went through all the drills and one-on-one work in camp, testing his skills against some of highest priority prospects on Missouri's board. He ran a 4.53 in the 40-yard dash, but said that's not nearly his best effort as he is still recovering from groin and lower back injuries. Asked what sets him apart, Ford didn't hesitate.

"Getting in the end zone," he said. "That's what I do."

Ford has been timed in 10.62 in the 100 meters and also has a personal best of more than 40 feet in the triple jump. He averaged 15.8 yards per reception and scored five touchdowns as a junior.
