Just hours after running for a Missouri freshman record 225 yards against Tennessee, running back Damarea Crockett was arrested at 4:17 a.m on Sunday in Columbia for possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana. The arrest was made by the University of Missouri police department. Crockett was in a parked car. Reports say he was the only individual arrested.
A Mizzou spokesman told PowerMizzou.com at 11:28 that "We're aware of the incident and are handling it internally."
Crockett has been the biggest bright spot for the Tigers in a dismal 3-8 season. His big night in Knoxville gave him 1,062 yards for the season, another record for a freshman at Missouri.
The Tigers are preparing to face Arkansas on Friday afternoon in their season finale. The Razorbacks bring the nation's 102nd-ranked run defense into the game. Crockett is an Arkansas native who was committed to Boise State prior to flipping to Missouri. He was not offered a scholarship by the home-state Razorbacks.
Following the Tennessee game, Crockett was asked about his anticipation for facing Arkansas on Friday.
"Sheesh!" Crockett said in a high-pitched expression of excitement. "Let's do it. Bring it on."
It is now in doubt whether the freshman will be suiting up for that game. Barry Odom is set to hold his weekly media session at 1:00 Monday afternoon.
