Four-star running back recaps Mizzou visit, talks future travel

AJ Davis returned from his visit to Missouri impressed. That’s not the only adjective that was in play. It’s just the most cliché. Surprised is another one that works, as the four-star running back didn’t get what he expected from the school’s Columbia, Mo.-based campus.

“It wasn’t what I thought it was going to be really,” Davis said. “It was a lot bigger than what I thought it was. I was really surprised. I liked it there. It was great.

While on campus, the Davis took part in the standard official visit fare. There were meals and campus tours. He met with coaches and talked to players. He attended the Tigers’ game with Georgia. And while Mizzou came out on the short end of a tight game, Davis departed with a positive impression.

“I don’t really have any favorites right now, but Missouri is going to be one of the final schools,” Davis said. “It’s going to be one of the schools I pick from.”

Davis says he intends to stay uncommitted until he takes all official visits. Which programs are in the running to secure one of his four remaining trips remains uncertain. Just one school other than Mizzou is penciled into a slot.

“I don’t know where I’m going yet, but I’d say probably Oklahoma,” Davis said.

Davis, who attends Florida’s Lakeland High School, is the No. 13 running back and No. 174 overall prospect in the class of 2017.

IN HIS WORDS: “With Missouri, I just liked everything I saw there,” Davis said. “It was straight. With Oklahoma, we just talk a lot and like that offense they run. I like how some of those backs catch the ball out of the backfield.”

RIVALS REACTION: Davis is one of the hardest players in the country to project. In the past, he’s named multiple schools as his favorite. Sometimes, he has no favorites at all. Things change quickly as they relate to Davis recruitment. Oklahoma, which once held the title of frontrunner, has been the closest thing to a constant. Still, there’s something to be said for Missouri securing the running back’s first visit. Right now, Mizzou and OU seem like the two programs in the thick of the hunt but that could change within the month … or week … or hour.
