Just before 2 p.m. today Mizzou recruiting assistant Austyn Carta-Samuels tweeted that huge news was coming for the Tiger football team. Ten minutes later the official recruiting account for Mizzou football tweeted the following.

At that point all signs pointed to 2017 Belleville (Mich.) defensive back Jordan Ulmer committing. It was confirmed first by his high school coach with Rivals.com analyst Josh Helmholdt.

Ultimately, Ulmer tweeted the news himself.

PowerMizzou.com was able to quickly speak with him about his commitment to Missouri shortly after the news broke.

"I just thought that Mizzou was the best fit for my future," he said. "For football and academics."

Ulmer especially liked the that there would be an opportunity for him to earn early playing time. Throughout his recruitment the coaches have said he could come in and make an immediate impact.

Other big factors at play in Ulmer's commitment were his future teammates and Tiger safeties coach Ryan Walters.

Ulmer has already developed a strong bond with the current players and his fellow commits. As Missouri fans have heard before, Jamal Brooks was instrumental in building that bond with Ulmer.

The relationship between Ulmer and Walters grew very strong over the last few months as well.

"We stayed in constant contact. He called me once a week during the dead period and before that we would talk even more often," the two-star prospect explained.

When Ulmer was talking with Barry Odom and Walters about his decision to commit he said it was hard to tell who was more pumped up.

"They were excited," he said with a laugh. "Very excited."

It was a little difficult for Ulmer to express how he felt about being done with recruiting. Knowing where he would be spending the next four to five years developing as a man and a football player was a big deal for him.

"It's the greatest feeling in the world. It's a blessing," he eventually said.

According to Ulmer, he will bring physicality, ball skills, good coverage and smarts to the Tigers. Mizzou fans can get a quick preview watching the highlights shown below.

PowerMizzou.com will have more information on Ulmer's commitment going forward. Look for his coach's evaluation and a breakdown from analyst Matt Hamilton in the near future.
