The Missouri football program confirmed to PowerMizzou.com that defensive line coach Jackie Shipp has been fired by Missouri. The move comes with one game left in the season. The Tigers face Arkansas on Friday afternoon.
It is unclear exactly when the move was made, but Shipp was not in attendance at Tuesday night's practice. Sources indicated to PowerMizzou.com that he had been let go and Mizzou confirmed that news on Wednesday afternoon.
"Jackie Shipp is no longer coaching for us, due to an internal matter where his conduct didn't meet our expectations for coaches," Barry Odom said in a statement provided to PowerMizzou.com. "We have a very high level of expectation for our student-athletes, and for our staff that applies to an even higher level."
Mizzou did not offer any details on the reason for Shipp's dismissal. Sources told PowerMizzou.com he was involved in a confrontation with a player in recent days.
Shipp was officially hired by Odom on February 3, 2016, which was also National Signing Day. Odom initially hired former USC assistant Chris Wilson to replace Craig Kuligowski as the defensive line coach. Kuligowski is now on Mark Richt's staff at Miami. Wilson left for job with the Philadelphia Eagles after just more than a month at Mizzou.
Shipp has coached in college for 26 years, the previous three at Arizona State. That followed 13 years at Oklahoma, where Shipp was a linebacker from 1980-83.
