WHAT MIZZOU NEEDS TO DO
The Tigers resuscitated their NCAA Tournament hopes in a big, big way last week. Two wins this week would go a long way toward sealing them up. At 5-5, Missouri needs four more wins to have a good shot at dancing, five to all but ensure it. The Saturday game against Mississippi State is a virtual must-win. Ole Miss in Oxford is tougher than people will give it credit for. The Tigers need to steal one road game the rest of the way. If they can get the one at Ole Miss, it's tough to see them missing the tournament as long as they take care of their business at home.
This week will determine whether we start to see some separation in the SEC or if it's a complete cluster all season. As of right now, Auburn appears to be the best team in the league and Vanderbilt the worst. Other than that? Nobody knows. Eleven of the 14 teams are within two games of each other. That means you can go from 13th to 3rd in the span of four days. Tennessee could virtually assure itself of a double bye in the league tournament with two wins this week and Auburn could put the conference title nearing lock territory.
Beyond that, a mess of 11 teams will try to create some space from the pack. Missouri is one of those teams. A good week could have the Tigers third in the league standings. A bad one could leave them somewhere around 12th and squarely back on the NCAA Tournament bubble.
