Season Review: Michael Scherer led the way here until a season-ending knee injury sidelined him for the final three games. Donavin Newsom ended up leading the team in tackles, but he too lost a lot of time to injury. The third starter out of camp was Joey Burkett, but he lost playing time as the season went on.
Eric Beisel was a revelation in the final few games after Scherer was hurt. He played well and should battle Cale Garrett, who put up a strong true freshman season, at middle linebacker.
Outside Terez Hall got a little bit of time and Brandon Lee got quite a bit. Both showed flashes but also struggled at times. Mid-season, former cornerback T.J. Warren was moved to one of the outside linebacker spots and played well in spurts for the Tigers.
Injuries made this position a near-revolving door. Outside of Scherer, no one was consistently good from start to finish, but there are quite a few players who showed at least some potential for the future.
