With starting linebackers Chad Bailey and Ty'Ron Hopper both expected to leave after this season, Mizzou was well known to be in the transfer market at linebacker. The Tigers have found their man.
Miami (FL) transfer Corey Flagg Jr. announced moments ago that he'll finish his career at Mizzou.
Flagg signed with the Canes as the nation's No. 24 linebacker out of Houston's North Shore High School in the Class of 2020. He appeared in eight games as a true freshman and then played in 43 with 23 starts over the next three years. Flagg had 179 tackles, 24.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, a forced fumble and an interception in his four years with Miami.
Flagg entered the transfer portal and graduated from Miami last week. He quickly emerged as a target for the Tigers due to a connection to defensive coordinator Blake Baker. Baker was the Hurricanes' defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach during Flagg's freshman season.
Flagg took an official visit to Mizzou last weekend and announced his commitment on Thursday. He is the fifth transfer to announce he will play for the Tigers next year joining cornerback Toriano Pride, running back Marcus Carroll, offensive lineman Cayden Green and edge rusher Darris Smith.
The Tigers are still in the market for at least a half dozen more portal additions to join the 2024 class that is expected to sign on Wednesday. Flagg will have one year of eligibility and should arrive on campus in January. His commitment bumps Mizzou to No. 11 in the Rivals.com team transfer rankings and No. 17 in the comprehensive recruiting rankings.
