Missouri's spring football practices are underway, and that has given PowerMizzou a chance to catch up with a few Tiger players. Newcomers to the program have not been made available to the media yet, so we will focus on getting reacquainted with players who redshirted last season or missed time due to an injury. Last week, we caught up with redshirt freshman tight end Logan Christopherson, who appeared to be in line for playing time a season ago before undergoing ankle surgery that forced him to sit out the entire season.

Question: A couple practices in, how has spring ball been so far?

Logan Christopherson: “It’s been good. Learning the new offense, just all these new plays you have to take in. It’s been pretty fun. ... We’re definitely using the tight end a lot more, like running a true tight, I like that a lot.”

Q: Yeah, I was going to ask, how has it been different for the tight ends so far?

LC: “We definitely got a lot of different new routes that we’ve been running, and just the run concepts, we’ve got a lot more details you gotta pay attention to, run (blocking assignments), so that’s new. Last year we didn’t have as many as we do now.”

Q: Have you totally recovered from your injury from last fall?

“Yeah, the last week of fall camp I had ankle surgery. So, yeah, I’ve been, coming back. I’m good, just a little slow right now. But every day I’m just trying to get better, get back to where I’ve been.”

Q: Do you feel like having the year off helped in any way?

LC: “Yeah, it kind of put me back into a different perspective, like see the game and just see how everything works. ... So, yeah, I definitely learned a lot, just the game speed and everything, how fast the tempo is. So I’ll be prepared for that when I come back.”

Q: What do you think was the biggest improvement you made during your year off?

LC: “My biggest improvement was just hitting the weights.I got a lot bigger in that time because we were just full-on lifting. Not being able to play, it was recover and get back. Putting on some weight, I’d say, that helps out.”

Q: What is the most important thing you have to continue to work on this spring?

LC: “Definitely my footwork and hand placement when I’m blocking.”

Q: What is the feel among the tight ends as a whole? Are you all excited about the new system?

LC: “Yes, we’re definitely all pumped for it. Coach (Joe Jon) Finley is jacked up, we all are bought in to it and we all are loving the new plays we’ve got so far.”
