When C.J. Roberts arrived in Columbia for the start of his official visit on Friday, he had no plans to make a commitment to any program anytime soon.

When he left on Sunday, just two days after releasing his top six schools, Roberts decided to end his recruitment early and commit to Missouri the next day.

The no. 96 player in the Rivals150 is the highest ranked player to commit to Kim Anderson and his staff and now leaves just one more scholarship open for the Tigers’ 2017 class.

“I was not expecting to commit this soon,” he told PowerMizzou.com. “It was comfortable for me and my family and I thought why not?”

The 6-foot point guard was hosted on his visit by a trio of freshmen in Willie Jackson, Frankie Hughes and Mitchell Smith, who spent the majority of the weekend in Roberts’ ear telling him how badly they wanted him.

Despite a rough first two years of Anderson’s coaching tenure at Missouri, Roberts said he’s not worried about the temperature of his future coach’s seat and plans to sign with the program on Nov. 9.

“I’m not worried about that,” he said. “They’ve shown me they know what they’re doing and they’ve shown me I can trust them. I’m ready for a big year with them.”

Roberts is a high-scoring guard who can play both guard positions. He said the Tigers’ coaching staff told him they plan to play him at both positions since they like his ability to score, but also like his skillset as a floor general.

“I think I can be a playmaker for them and help put myself in a position to score and my teammates in a position to score,” he said.

The North Richland Hills, Texas native plans to major in sports management at Missouri and plans to visit the school again during basketball season to catch a game.

He added that he plans to help the staff recruit the next player in the 2017 recruiting class.
